George is running his first 87km Comrades Marathon in June this year in aid of grandmothers, known as ‘gogos’ in isiZulu.
Like many of the young people in our communities, George would not be where he is today without the unconditional love and support of his grandmother in Kenya, who made sure that he had a strong foundation in life.
CAST wants to shine a light on the role of Gogo Wami (my grandmother) in the lives of the young people George has worked with in our Youth ministry over the years.
In the 14 communities where CAST operates, grandmothers are commonly the primary caregivers, fulfilling the role of both mother and father as a result of unfortunate circumstances, and forming the backbone of the community in instilling strong morals and values in the younger generations.
Join us in honoring and supporting 100 of these strong women by sponsoring R50 for every 10kms that George runs or sponsor a food parcel for R350.
The funds raised will provide food parcels to widow Gogos identified by our partner churches as being most vulnerable due to physical or financial strains.
Like these women, George will be challenged to go beyond physical strength and develop mental endurance to overcome the test.
