We have been overwhelmed by the immense response from the Westville community and other organisations to our appeal for donations. What a blessing to be able to help people in desperate need during this time. So far, we have been able to assist many more communities beyond our 10 church partners, including: Westville, KwaDabeka, Reservoir Hills, Clermont, Mariannridge, Mariannhill, Dassenhoek, Pinetown, Molweni, Nazareth, Lamontville, Chesterville, Cato Manor, Chatsworth, Shallcross, Savannah Park, Phoenix, Edamini, Shongweni, Inanda, Wyebank and Umbilo. There are many in our communities, like Aunty Rosy, who benefit not just from the food assistance, but from the consistent relationship and spiritual support from our Community Facilitators. In 2021, CAST launched the Grow Eat Thrive (GET) Farming Project in response to the dire need for food and financial support in our communities that resulted from the Covid-19 pandemic, compounded by the civil unrest in KwaZulu-Natal during July. Single mother 44-year-old Nokulunga Manzini is in urgent need of a bed/bunk bed with bedding (mattress, pillows etc.) to improve the sleeping arrangements at her home in Chesterville, Durban where she lives with her six children, all currently sharing one bed. Her business was sadly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic leaving her unemployed.
