C.A.S.T. is involved in a number of communities. We work with the communities very closely to ensure our impact operates on a sustainable level. We partner with community leaders, churches and work as a team to address real issues like Poverty, Unemployment, Education etc.

Our approach to working in these communities is a wholistic strategy dealing with not the symptoms, but the causes of the issues we deal with. We work closely and transparently with businesses, churches, communities and organisations with a common interest in breaking the cycle of poverty wherever we are empowered to work.

COMMMUNITIES IN WHICH WE CURRENTLY WORK

ADDINGTON

This inner-city area of KwaZulu-Natal also has a great deal of poverty. In Addington, Drugs, crime, alcoholism, domestic abuse, homelessness, human trafficking, and the language barrier are the most significant issues this community faces.

CAST has established a community centre at the Appelsbosch Baptist Community Church as a base for facilitating Relief Services, Education and Child Development programmes, Sport & Youth Development as well as Local Economic Development.

CHIBINI

Chibini IS a 90 minute drive outside of Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. Rural communities such as these lack resources, with people living mainly off the amount of food they are able to farm, with low rainfall and small tracts of land.

CHESTERVILLE

Although there has been considerable development, there are still large numbers of people affected by poverty and HIV/AIDS. West City Fellowship has been actively involved in development in this community since the late 1980s.

KWADEBEKA

This is a peri-urban area and a traditional “Black township” on the edge of New Germany. The predominant problems in this community are poverty, Aids, unemployment and lack of economic opportunity, crime, drugs, domestic violence and rape.

Lamontville is a small township community in KwaZulu-Natal with some 51,000 people and is located near Chatsworth and Umlazi. The main social issues include: poverty, HIV/AIDS, unemployment, crime, drug abuse, domestic violence and rape.

Mariannridge is an area located in KwaZulu-Natal that was developed in 1976 when ‘coloured’ families were displaced from Pinetown, Motala Farm, Claremont, Thornwood, Cator Manor, Umlaas and other areas during apartheid.

Phoenix is said to be one of the oldest Indian settlements in South Africa, founded in 1904 by Mahatma Gandhi. Later Phoenix was established in 1976 as a township, and is now home to 600,000 residents.

VOSLOORUS

In June 2018, CAST partnered with Hope of Glory Tabernacle, situated in Vosloorus, Gauteng. Founded in 1988 by Rev. Dr. Kenneth Meshoe, the church rapidly grew from a group of 8 people to a 3500-seater auditorium to accommodate the expanding congregation.

In Westville, there are many people who reside from neighbouring townships i.e. Claremont and Chesterville who come to the area as job-seekers and beggars on the street. This is due to the high unemployment rate the country is facing.
